A little more serious than usual

A few nights ago I finished with my workout and came upstairs to find Tim sleeping on the couch. So I grabbed his laptop and started checking e-mail and blogs. After I got bored with my usual web surfing, I went up to the address bar at the top of the screen and hit the arrow to pull down the websites that have recently been viewed...much less effort than actually typing in a whole address! I came across this blog, charliecooperjackjack.blogspot.com and wondered what is was since Tim is not much for reading blogs unless they are dedicated to home re-modeling, speakers or politics *(edited at the request of Tim) *. The name was also intriguing since we sometimes call Jackson "jack jack". I clicked on it and up popped a picture of a darling little boy. I started scrolling through the blog, recognized some of the nurses in the pictures and realized this was a patient on Tim's floor at Primary Children's. I proceeded to sob for the next hour as I read his story. He contracted bacterial meningitis and has been in the hospital since January. This blog has had a profound effect on me. I'm not sure if it's because I have a little boy close to the same age or if it's because this is my husband's job and he sees things like this on a daily basis. Probably a little of both. At any rate it is hard to describe my feelings. It is a sad story. But I can't help but feel that this little boy is so lucky to have such strong parents. Tim says they are so nice and whenever he sees them, they are smiling. I am not sure I could be that strong. It is a reminder that my husband and his co-workers are incredible people who have one of the hardest jobs around but do it brilliantly. It is a reminder to take nothing for granted. Life can change in an instant so don't let it go by too fast. Okay, I'm getting off the soap box now. It's not all that often that I climb up on it but I just thought I'd share .

I checked out that website out of curiosity. I don't know any of those people, yet I still got choked up! No child should ever have to go through that. Give Jackson a BIG kiss from me and Avery.

It's so sad when kids are affected by things beyond our control, like illness and disease. My nephew has CF--it is heartbreaking to hear about little ones who are sick. I understand the tears...we've shed many ourselves. Awareness, hope, faith, and love are key. Thanks for sharing this site.

That must be the hardest challenge for parents to overcome. I have the deepest respect for medical professionals who do what Tim does. It definitely takes special people to do such work.

Yes.
I know....
I have been following Charlies blog for awhile now, since he came to our floor, and whenenver I pass his room I hold my breath.. its one of the harder ones we see, maybe because of his age, or because of his profound condition.. or the parents heart ache.... it breaks my heart everytime the picture of him comes up . life is so fragile. hug your little guy. And thank God he's healthy.
