Water Walls

So these are water walls for my tomatoes. I was talking with a patient about wanting to get my garden started but the weather has been so up and down. She told me about these walls you fill with water and put around the tomato plant. The walls sort of collapse in and form a teepee and the plant is protected from frost. They work great! I just checked on them. It has snowed twice this week and the tomatoes still look great. Can't wait to have tomatoes earlier this year.

Let the kids drive!

Ok, he had me up until "Let your kid drive your car". HUH?? I agree with the point of this video. Kids are overprotected these days. It impedes their natural sense of curiosity, their desire to learn. (The decal on the lid of plastic storage bins warning you not to let your child climb inside and close the lid made me laugh out loud the first time I saw it. It's called common sense people!! ) So, of course it's beneficial to teach your child about the properties of fire, how to use a knife safely, how to throw something. But let them drive your car!!!! I don't think so! Not until they are of legal age and I am all for increasing that age to 18! Or at least having stricter laws about kids and cell phones. So call me crazy but I won't be letting Jackson drive my car while he can still order off the children's menu!

Thanks for the heads up on the video Kellie!

Sandbox weather

Jackson was a big help in the yard this weekend.

Okay, not really. But we did break out the sandbox and that kept him occupied for 2 whole minutes while I was doing yardwork. He was sitting inside at first but freaked out a little when I took his shoes and socks off. Hmmm....if he's anything like his mom, he won't want to wear shoes for long.

A little more serious than usual

A few nights ago I finished with my workout and came upstairs to find Tim sleeping on the couch. So I grabbed his laptop and started checking e-mail and blogs. After I got bored with my usual web surfing, I went up to the address bar at the top of the screen and hit the arrow to pull down the websites that have recently been viewed...much less effort than actually typing in a whole address! I came across this blog, charliecooperjackjack.blogspot.com and wondered what is was since Tim is not much for reading blogs unless they are dedicated to home re-modeling, speakers or politics *(edited at the request of Tim) *. The name was also intriguing since we sometimes call Jackson "jack jack". I clicked on it and up popped a picture of a darling little boy. I started scrolling through the blog, recognized some of the nurses in the pictures and realized this was a patient on Tim's floor at Primary Children's. I proceeded to sob for the next hour as I read his story. He contracted bacterial meningitis and has been in the hospital since January. This blog has had a profound effect on me. I'm not sure if it's because I have a little boy close to the same age or if it's because this is my husband's job and he sees things like this on a daily basis. Probably a little of both. At any rate it is hard to describe my feelings. It is a sad story. But I can't help but feel that this little boy is so lucky to have such strong parents. Tim says they are so nice and whenever he sees them, they are smiling. I am not sure I could be that strong. It is a reminder that my husband and his co-workers are incredible people who have one of the hardest jobs around but do it brilliantly. It is a reminder to take nothing for granted. Life can change in an instant so don't let it go by too fast. Okay, I'm getting off the soap box now. It's not all that often that I climb up on it but I just thought I'd share .

Finally!!

It seems as though they are about a month late but they are finally here.....it's been a long winter.
