Kauai Day 5

Our last day was reserved for sightseeing since we had to catch a plane at 9 pm and checkout at the hotel was at noon.
I remembered to get some pictures of the hotel grounds on the last day

This was the view of the grounds from the beach

The beach that out hotel was on was not a swimming beach. There were signs posted warning of jelly fish, rip currents and a steep drop off. But at night when we got back to the hotel, we would sit in these lounge chairs and watch the waves

This is called the blow hole. There used to be a much bigger one next to it that shot 200 feet into the air. But a long, long time ago, a sugar cane farmer was mad that the ocean spray from the blow hole was ruining about 10 acres of his crop. So he ordered a worker to drop dynamite down the hole. Now only the little one blows.

The Lawai coast near the blow hole

Shipwreck Beach was probably our favorite beach so it was too bad we didn't find it until our last day

Lava Arch was just a short hike from Shipwreck Beach

After we hiked around a bit we sat and watched the surfers at Shipwreck Beach. Seems to be where the locals were.
