More Emery

Jackson said, "Oh, she's so cute."

So everything went well. We got the call at 2 pm to get here ASAP. I was induced at 3, epidural at 6 and started pushing a little after 8:30. Then I had to hold off pushing by 9:30 because the doctor hadn't arrived. She couldn't wait though and he ran in just in time to catch her.

And Wait.........

What a frustrating way to have a baby. Still waiting at 1 pm. I received a call at 10:00 that 2 more people came in in labor but they would get me in today per my doctor's order. And I could go ahead and eat something light! YAY! So we wait......

Induction Day

Let me fill you in on the realities of having a scheduled induction. Mine was scheduled for today so I called last night to confirm. They told me to call at 7 am to make sure there weren't already too many people in labor but to be ready to go at 7. Also nothing but clear liquids after midnight and nothing after 5. So I said "Okay! Thanks! Bye." Then an hour later it dawned on me. NOTHING TO EAT AFTER MIDNIGHT! And my response was okay, thanks!??? What I should have said was are you insane?? I am not coming in to lay on a table, go to sleep and wake up an hour later without my appendix! I will be pushing a human being out of my body! That might require some energy. Not something I really want to do when I am starving. Anyone who has had a baby knows you get ice chips while you are in labor and you are ravenous after it's over. When I was induced with Jack, it was not planned and I was grateful I had decided to have a big breakfast that morning. And it was still over 12 hours before I had something to eat again. I realize there is always the possibility of a c-section and that's likely why they tell you not to eat but you would be laboring for hours before an unplanned c-section......plenty of time to digest. So the request not to eat seems rather insane to me. I didn't sleep that well and woke up starving at 3:30. So I cheated and had a banana. I called the hospital at 7 and was told it was too crazy and to call back at 8:30. So we wait.......................

39 weeks

Well I've made it this far so what's 1 more week. I've spent the last couple of weeks going to work, listening to people say "you're still here?", seeing the looks of pity,or maybe amusement on their faces. When they ask how I'm feeling (and they always do) I just say well, I'm still here. My last check-up with the doctor today revealed no change. Still 70 % effaced and dilated 2.5. This little girl is being stubborn. April 6th was full for inductions so I was moved back to the 7th and put on the waiting list for the 6th. I kept saying it didn't matter because I was going to have her before then anyway but apparently she is content to hang out in there until the very end. I'm feeling okay, just very, very swollen and out of breath all the time since she has not dropped a bit. But, I'm actually sleeping better lately which is a nice change. So for now I look forward to the 7th.

Getting Ready

Today I was putting some things away in the baby's room and Jackson said "I need to try out Emery's bed".

So I decided to take a few pictures of the room so far. I've had fun decorating for a girl. I feel a little guilty because I am a little more into it for her than I was for Jackson. There's just so much cute stuff and of course it all has to match. I'm waiting for a few more things to arrive and I still need to decide on some decorations for the walls.

And now as I look at these pictures I think, crap, the matching valance and curtains sure would look cute.

36 Weeks

We had our 36 week checkup this week and a final ultrasound to make sure I'm not having the same problem I had last time when Jackson stopped growing. Everything looked good, she's still growing and so am I. (The double chin has returned! ) I've also started to dilate and I am 60% effaced. My doctor is leaving town on my due date so he said he would induce me a week early which puts us at April 1st. I told him I am covering for one of the therapists at work until April 1st so I had to stay pregnant until then. He laughed and said well that's wishful thinking. As of now we're scheduled for an induction on April 6th. Guess we'll see if I make it.

The eyes say it all

She has to wear this thing for a month! A MONTH! It must have started with a scratch on her paw. She wouldn't stop licking it and eventually it turned into a callous and then a sore. The doctor called it lickem granulousum. Now it's infected and she's on an antibiotic and prednisone. Every time she looks at me her eyes are saying, Why? WHY are you doing this to me???? The best part is when she walks behind you, jabbing you in the back of the knees with the collar the whole time. She's already knocked Jackson down twice. Luckily he thinks it's funny. Aahh the joys of dog ownership.
